Title of course: 2 Hour Mental Health Awareness

Course Description: This course is an elective course that can help fulfill the requirement for an individual applying for a Site Safety Training Card. THIS IS AN AWARENESS-LEVEL TRAINING ONLY and does not provide any other qualification or authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card. It covers the mental health and substance use topics required by Local Law 10 of 2026, and provides two hours towards the satisfaction of the Local Law 196 requirement.

Pre-requisites: There are no pre-requisites for the course. Students must speak the language in which the course is given.

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to but not limited to:

• Recognize the scale of overdose and suicide in construction, and how the City treats them as safety issues
• Identify the effects of alcohol, cannabis, stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids and over-the-counter medication on the job
• Recognize an opioid overdose and carry out the five response steps, including the use of naloxone
• Describe the health, fire and withdrawal risks of tobacco and nicotine on a jobsite
• Recognize the warning signs of suicide and hold a direct conversation: ask, listen, connect, follow up
• Understand how mental health shows up at work, and how to bring it up with a coworker
• Report an unsafe condition through the correct New York City channel

Course Components: on-demand video instruction, three required films, two knowledge checks and a written final exam, plus a printable bilingual resource sheet of hotlines and treatment contacts.

Duration: 2 hours of instruction.

Requirements: Students must achieve 70% on the final exam and complete 100% of the coursework with active participation.
